Care Homes

Manchester OT provides care homes with occupational therapy services for their residents. This can be either residential homes, nursing homes or supported living accommodation.

Following an assessment, the occupational therapist will prepare a detailed report, including any recommendations made for the provision of aids, equipment and adaptations. Our occupational therapists can also carry out risk assessments and manual handling training as required.

Moving and Handling and Risk Assessments

Occupational therapists can complete assessments with individual patients and provide advice relating to safe moving and handling techniques for both the patient and the staff. We can provide risk assessments and give advice on suitable equipment that may be required.

Functional Assessments for Respite Patients

If a patient has come to a residential home for a period of respite, especially if this is a result of emergency respite as a result of a change in functional status or change in circumstances, we can complete assessments and provide a personalised rehabilitation plan to aim to allow the patient to return home living as independently as possible. This treatment plan may involve treatment sessions at the residential home, home visits and follow up visits once the patient has returned home, if appropriate.

Planning for new homes

The occupational therapists at Manchester OT can provide advice and recommendations when the construction of a new home is being considered. This would include the consideration of layout in relation to access, specialist equipment, moving and handling and risk assessment.
